2. Unplug Everything and Organize Them

It might look obvious, but some people look for shortcuts. Turn off your computer and remove external cables and objects.

Take out the keyboard, mouse, and speakers and pack them separately.

When you pack them with a computer, they can damage the screen and leave scratches on the monitor.

By doing this, you can prevent cables from mixing and tangling.

Finally, don’t forget to label cords so that you can easily set up your PC after reaching your new home.

3. Required Supplies for Packing

When you decide to pack and move the computer yourself, ensure that you have everything you need to take it to your new home.

Some essential supplies are a right-sized box, bubble wrap, padding, moving blankets, twist ties for cables, plastic bags for small parts, and the original packaging for other supplies like keyboard, mouse, and speakers.

4. Pack Like a Pro

Packing is the most critical step to ensure the product’s safety. First of all, find the original packaging.

If it’s not available, then you can visit your local electronic store to get one. If you can’t get the same sized box, don’t worry.

Use towels or blankets to fill the space in the box.  It will not only protect your computer from moving but also provide extra security.

Use the original passing if available. Use packing tape to secure the box. Ensure that the box is sturdy.

5. Use Protective Covering

When you don’t take precautionary measures, you can easily damage your computer.

Wrap all the accessories in original packing and secure them with tape. Use foam wrap or any other available protective covering.

You can either put these accessories with a computer if space is free or use a separate small box.

6. Label Boxes and Bags

When you pack computers, there are lots of accessories. When you unplug them and pack them in boxes, ensure that you label them.

Similarly, secure and label all the cords. It will help you when you reach your new home. It will also help if you’re using a moving service.

Movers can understand that the boxes contain delicate items, so they will deal with them carefully.

7. Never Set Your Pc Upright

You need to place your computer right when you’re moving a long distance.

The best approach is to lay your PC flat on the floor of the car or a truck.

When you place your PC on a seat and don’t use a seatbelt, it can be dangerous.

Additional Tips for Making the Move Easier

  • Place product manuals and cables in a secure bag. It will help when you need to re-assemble your computer.
  • Label each cord so that you can get the right one when you need it.
  • If you’re planning to keep your computer in a storage unit before or after a move, keep the temperature in mind and choose the climate-controlled storage option.
  • Cut off the power supply at least a few hours before packing. Otherwise, it can be dangerous for your computer.
  • Use original packaging if available because they’re designed to protect your computers from damage.
  • When loading the computer box in the truck, ensure that it doesn’t move and is placed along the wall. Avoid placing heavy objects on it.
