Home Décor Tips to Boost Your Mental Wellbeing

Your home is your safe haven. It should feel warm, welcoming, and secure; and ideally, make you feel happy.

There are lots of ways you can decorate your living environment that can help you to enjoy a healthy mind.

Here are our home décor tips to boost your mental wellbeing.

Contents

Declutter

A cluttered home is not just unhygienic and a potential fire hazard, it can drain you mentally.

No one feels happy among hordes of untidiness, so try your best not to allow stuff to mount up.

If your home is already cluttered, then there are ways to tackle the problem.

Ask a friend, a relative, or a professional cleaning company to help if you’re struggling with deciding what to part with or if the task is too big.

You’ll be amazed at how clear-headed and refreshed you feel once you’ve got rid of all the clutter in your home.

Incorporate Colour

Your favorite colour elicits positive feelings in you, so use that to boost your mood when decorating your home.

The most obvious way to do this is to paint the walls in your chosen hue; however, this might not be to your taste, especially if you happen to like a particularly bright colour.

Don’t worry – you can incorporate your favorite shade in more subtle ways if you wish.

Add a splash of colour in cushions, beanbags, or a statement piece of art or furniture. You could also consider assimilating your favorite colour within a feature wall.

Add Plants

It’s well-known that plants are good for your physical health due to them removing toxins from the air, but did you know that they’re also beneficial to your mental wellbeing?

Studies show that having plants around you can improve your mood, reduce stress, and increase productivity. Bonsai plants are particularly ideal.

Not only do they look magical, they are brilliant stress-relievers and good at purifying the air. Get yourself a Bonsai starter kit and prepare to share your home with a beautiful, mood-enhancing plant.

Surround Yourself With Mementos

Surrounding yourself with meaningful items and special keepsakes is a great mood booster.

There’s a reason why your grandparents always had photos of you and your relatives around their home – it made them happy and reminded them of the people they loved.

Whether your wedding picture takes pride of place on your mantelpiece, or you pin an old snapshot of you and your bestie to the fridge, having photographs on display will remind you of special moments that bring a smile to your face.

A precious memento doesn’t have to be a photo, however. It might be a drawing by your child or an item that reminds you of something in your past – anything that induces a feeling of warmth and happiness.

Create Light

Dark-colored walls with minimal light coming in can make your living space appear smaller than it actually is.

Not only that, you can feel claustrophobic and enclosed, which is not good for your mental health.

Open up your rooms by using lighter colours on the walls and try to avoid lots of fussy patterns.

Natural sunlight is a well-known happiness booster, so make sure you have your curtains open throughout the whole day to allow as much of it in as possible.

Conclusion

With the right home décor techniques, you can boost your happiness and overall mental wellbeing.
