3 Easy Ways You Can Breathe Life Back Into Your Home
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Are you feeling unsatisfied with the look and feel of your home? Well, you’re not alone. It’s normal to question interior design choices after you’ve been living somewhere for a while.

Rooms can become cluttered, messy and feel dull over time, making us question whether a full renovation project is in order.

However, we’re here to tell you that there are some quick and easy solutions you can do to transform your home without breaking the bank.

So, no matter where you’re based, you can discover more about how to breathe life back into flats in Edinburgh or houses in London, and everywhere in between, with these 3 easy tips listed below.

Declutter

The general rule of thumb is if you haven’t used it in a year or more, throw it out.

Many of us are in the habit of keeping belongings we believe could be of use someday and that’s where drawers, cupboards and loft space can become full of unwanted and useless items we’ll likely never be using again.

While it may be one of the trickier solutions to your interior decor problems, once you rid yourself of this clutter, your home will once again feel brand new and appear bigger than it was before.

This is where you’ll find being able to easily access the items you regularly use in your home will be a refreshing change and will affect your overall mood.

Consider donating any unwanted items to charity, or sell them online and earn some of that money back. This will allow you to focus on the things you do want to keep and will actually get some use out of.

Plants

Ever heard the saying, ‘bring the outside in?’ There’s a reason why this is so effective. Adding plants, whether real or fake, can instantly spruce up your living space, simply by adding a splash of colour to your neutral decor.

Indoor plants aren’t just for aesthetic decoration though, they have been shown to reduce stress, boost low moods and help with creativity. Not only that, but research has shown that adding plants to your interior decor increases concentration and improves productivity.

This has never been more important as recent years have shown the COVID-19 pandemic has required millions of people across the globe to work from home.

It’s easy to get distracted when surrounded by your home life, and that’s where small additions such as plants can actually have real health benefits. Plants have been proven to reduce stress levels, lower your heart rate and blood pressure meaning you’ll get a better night’s sleep.

By introducing real plants to your interior decor, they have also been proven to help clean indoor air by absorbing toxins, increasing humidity & producing oxygen.

There’s no real limit to how many plants you can add to your interior decor, however something to be aware of is how likely you are to be able to maintain them.

For those people who are naive to plant maintenance, you might want to consider purchasing 90% fake plants and 10% real plants. This way it will still benefit from a bright and colourful decor, however it will be a lot easier to maintain them.

Colour

Adding colour to your home is a sure fire way to bring your dark and boring decor to life again. There are plenty of ways you can go about this, many of which only require simple additions.

For example, adding a colourful throw or cushions won’t cost you much and can be a big game changer to the overall look and feel of a room.

If you’re looking for a slightly bigger project, a popular way of revamping your decor is by painting furniture, particularly any outdated furniture you might be considering getting rid of. Adding a coat of paint to your furniture instantly brings the room to life and gives a pop of colour.

It’s important to ensure you’ll be doing the right thing though. Be aware that painting new furniture could make things worse and have the piece looking uneven and amateurish. So make sure you’re really ready to make the decision and only consider it if the furniture has become old and dull.

For a bigger renovation project, a fresh coat of paint on the walls can instantly brighten the interior’s mood and appearance. Painting your home has been found to be very therapeutic for many people and a great sense of achievement once completed.

However, the prospect of painting your home yourself may be a daunting task, that’s where you can hire a professional painter. They will ensure the job is done to the highest standard and you may find that is enough of a transformation to spruce up your drab decor.

And that’s it! With just a few simple changes and additions, you’ll have your place feeling like a home again in no time at all.
