What to Consider When Choosing the Best Lighting Options for Your Bedroom
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

There are many types of light bulbs on the market these days, and it can be difficult to know which one is going to work best for you.

You want a light that gives you plenty of options but won’t cost too much money.

With all the different types of lights available, we will help by laying out some factors to keep in mind when looking for your next lighting purchase.

Contents

  • 1 The Bedroom Size
  • 2 Lighting Supplier and Installer
  • 3 Lighting Fixtures and Styles
  • 4 Bedroom Style
  • 5 Installation Work and Cost
  • 6 Access to Natural Light
  • 7 The Ease of Control

The Bedroom Size

The first thing you should think about is the size of your bedroom. If you have a very large room, it may be best to use brighter lights with higher wattage.

On the other hand, smaller rooms will work better with low-watt bulbs and less light intensity overall. This doesn’t stand for every homeowner, as some would prefer dimmer lights even in larger bedrooms due to factors like privacy and their health conditions, among others.

Lighting Supplier and Installer

The second thing you should consider is the lighting supplier and installer. Not all lighting companies are created equal, so it’s important to do your research before settling on a provider.

Some lighting wholesalers like Electrical & Lighting Solutions may have better deals or be more reputable than others. If you’re not comfortable with installing the lights yourself, make sure to ask about installation fees when getting quotes.

Lighting Fixtures and Styles

The third factor you should consider is the lighting fixtures and styles. Lighting doesn’t just mean overhead lights, but also lamps or even candles if that’s what you prefer.

You can find a wide variety of options at your local hardware store or online retailer. If you’re looking for a unique look, you can also find antique or vintage fixtures at flea markets or online auctions.

Be careful when selecting styles and materials, as some light fixtures may not be compatible with certain types of bulbs or may be difficult to install. Make sure to read the manufacturer’s specifications before making your purchase.

Bedroom Style

Next, consider what kind of style works for your bedroom. This is where the classic choice of white goes, but you can also go for something with a more vintage or rustic feel.

When it comes to lighting color temperature, warm tones are usually preferred by those who like their bedrooms cozy and inviting, while cooler colors emit an airy feeling that’s great if your room has lots of windows.

The type of light you choose for your bedroom will vary depending on the ambiance you want to create.

Installation Work and Cost

If you’re not the handiest person around, then think about how easy or difficult it will be to install your chosen light fixture.

If it’s something that has to be hardwired into the ceiling, then plan on calling in an electrician for help because doing this alone can lead to electrical hazards, especially if you’re less experienced in handling such fixtures.

Regardless of whether self-installation is an option, always factor in the cost of the light fixture and installation when making your decision.

Access to Natural Light

The amount of natural light present in your bedroom will also play a part in what type of light you choose.

For example, if you have large windows that let in a lot of sunlight during the day, then you might not need a lamp or overhead light at all.

However, if your bedroom is mostly in the shadow of other buildings or doesn’t get much natural light, then you’ll likely need some artificial lighting.

In this case, it’s important to choose a light fixture that considers how much natural light you have available.

For example, a ceiling fan with a built-in light might not be the best option if you have a lot of windows since it will likely block some of the natural light.

On the other hand, a floor lamp with a dimmer switch might be a good choice, so you can adjust the amount of light depending on how much natural light is available.

The Ease of Control

How easily you can control your lights when on your bed will define how flexible you can switch on and off your lights.

There are bedside lamps with switches on the cord, which can be a little bit inconvenient if you’re using your other hand to do something else like reading or scrolling through your phone.

Lamps with switches located on the base or shade are more ideal because they’re easy to reach without having to get up from your comfortable spot on the bed.

However, if switches and cords don’t promise the ultimate comfort you’re looking for, then you might consider smart bulbs with Google or Alexa voice commands. This way, you can issue commands to control your lights without moving out of bed.

Lighting a bedroom is an important role that needs the pulling together of resources and careful thought.

With the many different types of lighting on the market, it can be hard to decide which is best for your individual needs and preferences.

Hopefully, these tips have helped you better understand what’s out there and how to go about such a challenge when it arises.
