Even the Slowest Leaking Tap Could Increase Your Water Bill! Fix It Asap

Do you know a water leak can waste water and cost you a fortune? The leaking tap can be the cause of the increased water bill.

A household can waste nearly 90 gallons or more per day because of the leaks.

Around 1 trillion gallons of water annually is wasted because of water leaks in households.

If we calculate the leaks, around 10 drips of water are wasted per minute, which means nearly one gallon per day and 29 gallons per month.

The fast water drips, it can waste 11 gallons per day and 330 gallons per month.

If you have a running toilet, it can waste about 200 gallons per day and 6,000 gallons per month.

Then you can predict the cost you need to pay, depending on the current rate.

Therefore, it is essential to save your water and save your money now. You have to address the water leak problem as fast as you can.

But don’t get panic easily! You need to remain calm and try several tips below:

Check Your Recent Bill and Water Meter

It is essential to regularly check your water bill. If you encounter an unanticipated and unexplainable increasing number in your recent water bill or water usage, you need to check it thoroughly.

For instance, if you find that you use more than 12,000 gallons a month, then that is probably a sign of a serious water leak problem.

If you’re still uncertain about everything, you should check the water meter when no water is being used.

Turn off all water sources in your home and remember how the water meter moves.

Wait for 20 minutes to an hour, and then check again the water meter.

If you see the water meter is moving and has a different position than 20 minutes before, then it possibly means that you have a water leak.

Remember to turn off your sinks, dishwashers, washing machines and don’t use the toilet during this period.

Find the Hidden Leak Now

Identify the condition of the toilet first. Put a drop of food coloring in the toilet tank and wait around 15 minutes, if it shows up some colors in the toilet bowl, then it possibly means you have a water leak there.

Usually, a running toilet occurs because of the old toilet flappers that cause leaks.

You can also try to find the leak in the faucet and showerhead. Examine the faucet gaskets and pipe fittings for any water on the outside of the pipe.

Worn washers and gaskets are usually the cause of water leaks. For the showerhead, you have to make sure the connection between the showerhead and the pipe stem is not loose.

Check the outdoor situation. Identify the connection between your garden hose to the spigot, and check if it has a problem. If you have an in-ground irrigation system, make sure each spring was not damaged.

Lastly, you can try to identify the water leak in the suspected location. Check your walls, ceilings, or floors if they have moisture or mold and are smelly because that’s a clear sign of a leak.

You can also try to check under bathroom and kitchen sinks or dishwasher pipes.

If you have already found the sources of the problems and tried to do the DIY efforts, but it doesn’t stop them, maybe you have to replace your leaking fixtures.

But if you don’t have time or if you are uncertain to do so, you can call a plumbing expert as soon as possible.

Emergency Plumber in Sydney will be the right answer for you.

They will detect the leak and solve the water problem quickly, so you won’t have to pay a lot of money for your water bill.
