Staging a home for sale is an important task that many home owners don’t think about until it’s too late.

Not only does this process help to maximize the value of your home, but it also can make the interstate removals process easier and less stressful.

In this post, we will go over some tips on how to stage a home before you move into your next place!

Remove the Clutter

Less is more when it comes to staging a home for sale. One of the best ways to prepare your home for sale is by removing as much clutter as you can.

Buyers want to see themselves living the ultimate lifestyle in your home. You’ll notice in all the interior design magazines; the homes are always clutter-free!

This is because home buyers want to imagine themselves in a home, not someone else’s junk.

Keep the Essential Furniture Only

The living room is often the most used space in a home and therefore, tends to accumulate the most furniture.

To make your living room look more spacious and appealing, it’s best to keep only the essential furniture, particularly in the living room.

Keep to a theme that matches the lifestyle of your location. For example, if you’re near the beach, a costal theme may work best.

It will help you sell the lifestyle.

Remove Excessive Wall Art or Pictures From the Walls

It may sound strange but removing picture frames from a wall can make rooms seem more spacious and homier.

It makes the space feel more neutral so potential home buyers can envision their own things in your home.

In some instances where the walls may be damaged, it may be better to leave the pictures up to hide these blemishes.

Remove Excessive Rugs, Blankets or Throws

Another way to open up a room is by removing floor rugs or throws.

These items may make your home feel cozier however removing them will make rooms look larger and more inviting for buyers.

Tidy Up the Kitchen

It’s said that the kitchen is the heart of the home and for this reason, your kitchen can be a big selling point for a property.

The kitchen is where families spend the most time together so it’s important to make sure that your surfaces and appliances are clean and tidy.

Organize the Pantry

If you have clutter, organize or remove items so the space doesn’t look cramped and messy.

The reality is, most of us live in less than magazine-perfect homes and learn to live in our own clutter.

If you have open shelving, you should also pay attention to the aesthetic appeal.

Open shelves should contain objects with similar colors and textures for a consistent look.

Remove Personal Items

Another thing that you will want to do before putting your home on the market is removing personal items such as photos of friends and family from view.

These items can be distracting for a potential buyer who wants to imagine their lives in your home, not yours.

They don’t want to feel like they’re walking into someone else’s home. It’s also wise to remove these items for the privacy of your family.

Remove Excessive Clothes From Closets

Another way in which you can make your home seem more spacious is by removing clothes from closets so that it doesn’t look cluttered.

If potential home buyers see the closets jam packed, they may become concerned about having enough space for their own items.

Remove Excessive Toys

Kids love their toys however the problem is they are not always great at packing them away.

By having less toys in the home while staging, you’ll have less to tidy up when people are scheduled to view the property and less clutter in general.

Kids typically play with just a few of their toys at any given time so select what you think they’ll favor the most and store the rest away.

Be a Smart Seller

When moving, smart sellers will take extra time on the areas of their home that may be the biggest selling point.

Depending on the region you live in, there’s a growing trend to transform backyards into a resort style oasis.

If your outdoor area is amazing, then a general tidy-up and staging could go a long way in fetching a high sale price.

Consider the lifestyle people are buying when they are interested in your property.

Having these areas looking great it will allow you to sell your house faster for top dollar.

Preparing to Move Home

If you are selling your current home, prior to taking possession of a new home you may choose to use a storage facility for your personal items.

This can be used as a safe place for all the items you want to keep but don’t want in your home for sale.

This can also become a huge advantage when the day comes to move out of your current home when it sells.

When moving from one home to another, it’s can be a huge job so if you’ve already got a lot of items boxed up and in storage, much of the work is already done.

There will still be plenty to do when moving.

This will usually include packing up your belongings that are still in the home and consulting with removalists who can give you an estimate on how much time the move will take and what they will charge for their services.

There’s a fantastic online tool created by Buzz Me Removals. While the tool is for Australians so it’s pricing may not be suitable for other areas of the world, it can be great as a planning tool.

Some removalists can also take care of the packing for you if you prefer. Since you’ve already put your personal belongings in storage, you may be more comfortable hiring a team to take care of this all for you.
