Spring is almost here and it’s high time that you organized your garage.
Garages tend to become cluttered with all the seasonal gear and decorations that are hastily stowed away after use.
This causes a real hassle when you try to find a specific item in a time of need, and after being unable to locate it amidst all the clutter, you have no choice but to purchase it again
To avoid such a situation, all you have to do is plan and declutter your garage.

Step 1: Clear Out Your Garage:
Start fresh by completely emptying your garage to get a blank canvas.
Take out everything that you have stored in your garage so that you have a general idea of the items that you are dealing with.
Once you know what is inside your garage, you can move on to the second step.
Step 2: Categorize:
When storing items in the garage, we usually box up all the things we believe won’t be required anytime soon.
Amongst these items, there is some stuff that we later realize will not be of further use, whereas, some items make their way into the garage just because you don’t know where else to put them. Well, it’s time to get rid of all such things.
Once you are done taking out all the items from your garage, go through each item and decide whether you should keep it or discard it.
Make two piles and sort every item.
This way, you can easily separate all the junk and will be left with items that are going to go back into your garage in a neat and organized manner.
Step 3: Take Care of the Discarded Pile
Now that you have separated all the items that were unnecessarily cluttering your garage, it’s time to get rid of them.
However, just because an item is of no further use to you, doesn’t mean that it can’t benefit someone else.
Go through your “discard” pile and see if any item can be sold or donated.
You can easily sell such items by hosting a yard sale or by listing them on social media marketplaces like Facebook or Craigslist, which can help you earn a bit of extra cash.
If you are planning to donate, you can drop the items off at a local nonprofit or charity.
After selling and donating, you’ll have taken care of the most significant portion of your “discard” pile.
Now that you are left with only those items that can neither be donated nor sold, you can bag them up and toss them in the trash to get them off your premises.
Step 4: Deep Cleanse Your Garage
After getting rid of all the clutter, you are now left with items that are important to you.
Before moving your stuff back inside the garage, however, why not make the most of your empty and bare garage by giving it a thorough cleaning.
Starting from the top, dust off the walls, shelves, cabinets, or any other hooks and brackets you may have in your garage.
Afterward, focus on the floor of your garage and thoroughly scrub and wash it to remove any loose debris.
Don’t forget to wash and wipe your garage door too because a dirty garage door decreases the visual appeal of your house to a great extent.
Step 5: the “keep” Pile:
At this point, you have on your hands a sparkling garage and piles of items that are waiting to be stored.
This should be a piece of cake considering that you have taken care of all items that were messing up your garage.
However, if you don’t store your belongings systematically, you will end up messing up your garage all over again the next time you need to look for something.
The easiest way to systematically store all items in your garage is to further sort the items according to their use and pack them in labeled boxes.
This way, you will know which box has all your Christmas decorations and where exactly you can find all your sports gear.
Furthermore, you can designate areas of your garage to store similar kinds of items.
For items that are too big to be boxed up, you can install hooks or brackets on the walls to hang them up, thus giving your garage an extra decorative look.
If you end up running out of space, consider investing in additional storage options for your garage available in the market like pegboards, track systems, and organizer bins.
Lastly, double-check to see that your garage door is in its tip-top condition as it is the primary and vital barrier that defends all your belongings from weather effects.
