A Guide for a Low-maintenance Home

Home cleaning and maintenance is a huge responsibility, and it can take up a lot of time on a regular basis.

Even loving everything within your home doesn’t change the fact that regular upkeep and cleaning is a chore that not many people would admit to enjoying.

That’s why having a home that is as low-maintenance as possible can make a positive difference.

However, is there any benefit to doing that? In fact, there is.

What Are the Benefits of Going Low-maintenance?

If you were to go low-maintenance, you could enjoy the following benefits:

  • Less stress
  • Less responsibility
  • More free time
  • Easier to keep on top of
  • Save money
  • More space
  • Improved productivity

How to Ensure a Low-maintenance Home

With the benefits speaking for themselves, the only question is, how do you get started? Follow these tips for the best results.

1. Go, Minimalist,

The peak of a low-maintenance home is going to be switching to minimalism.

This ensures that you have less in your home and also less to worry about.

Especially if you’re finding that you’ve been a busy hoarder for too long, having a serious declutter and switching to a minimalist home style can be a boon if you’re looking for easier home upkeep.

Going minimalist with fewer items also means that your home will be so much easier to manage and clean.

You’ll have fewer items to dust, and you’ll also have clearer floor space to do a dedicated sweep rather than having to move items and furniture to clean.

2. Avoid Real Plants

While houseplants can offer an attractive finish and greenery to any home, they can also be very demanding depending on the type of plant you get.

If you’re not a passionate plant-lover, then having to constantly care for your plants and also ensure that they’re looked after when you’re away from home can be an extra source of responsibility.

Instead, add a touch of green to your home using fake plants or synthetic fern plants, like from Hemsly.

These ensure that you can still have attractive plants placed around your home without the worry or upkeep of them.

3. Get Organized

Especially in busy rooms such as a kitchen, a lot of stress can come from trying to find particular items or over-crowded drawers.

Being organized throughout your home is going to help everything have its place and also help you to know exactly where something is when you need it.

4. Go Simple Outdoors

To stay organized, think about having dedicated cupboards for certain items, having an improved system, and thinking about better storage options around the house.

If you have any outside space, whether it’s a garden or yard, then simple is always better.

If you have a busy garden or yard, such as one filled with furniture, flowers, and other features, this is great from a design perspective, but not if you’re looking to avoid extra responsibility and maintenance.

Outside space is one area that needs to be maintained all year round and protected in line with the weather and seasons, so this can be a huge home-maintenance job on top of your regular household duties.

So if you have a garden, think about simple features like a table and chairs if needed and merely keeping on top of your lawn.

Or, you may want to switch to decking or paving so that you don’t have to worry about cutting your grass at all.

Try these tips to have more organization and control over your home setup.
