Tips to Ensure Your Home Is Cat Friendly

Your home is your castle. However, if you have a cat, the chances are that they think your home is their castle too. Providing the best possible home environment to live in is not only important for you and your family, but any pets you may have. We’ve listed some top tips to ensure that your home is cat friendly, so that you and your feline friend can live together in harmony.

Contents

  • 1 Secure the Garden
  • 2 New Heights
  • 3 Watch Your Plants
  • 4 Organize the Emergency Kits
  • 5 Create a Bed
  • 6 Conclusion

Secure the Garden

If you have an indoor cat, you can secure your garden to allow your feline friend to enjoy the outdoors in safety. A good quality cat fence topper goes a long way to keeping your pet safe within your outdoor space.

Furthermore, it can also be used for outdoor cats during times when you need to keep them contained but they still need their outdoor fix; for instance while your cat’s recovering from a surgical procedure or during celebration events that use fireworks. You can find a top quality cat fence here.

New Heights

Your cat likes to be in charge. An effective way to secure your cat’s position as head of the household is to provide high levels for it to survey its territory from. High level areas also function as safe spaces though, allowing your cat a place to escape to if they need a break from the daily noises of the house. This is particularly recommended in multi-cat households or if there are young children toddling about. Invest in a scratching tree that provides different levels for your pet to explore and to stop them getting bored. Cats lacking in stimulation can display behavioural problems, such as destroying furniture.

Watch Your Plants

Lilies, cyclamen, hyacinth, and sago palms are just some of the plants known to be poisonous to cats. It’s always best to check with a vet or other professional if you’re unsure of any new plants in your home.

Organize the Emergency Kits

For general situations, a basic pet first-aid kit is recommended. Give your cat one to two weeks’ worth of his or her favorite food, so they won’t get upset so soon. Having collapsible food and water bowls is extremely convenient. Washable cat diapers can be used for travel, heating cycles of cats, incontinence issues, or surgical wounds. A list of medications and veterinarians’ contact information is provided for new vets to get to know their cats quickly.

Create a Bed

You might like the idea of having your cat snuggling up to you in bed or on the couch, but it’s not so nice when all your soft furnishings are covered in hairs. Invest in a cat bed, or make your own using a cardboard box and blankets, and try to encourage your cat to use it instead of the furniture. Keep it in a warm, quiet area, ideally away from busy or noisy rooms, such as the kitchen. Your bedroom is an ideal place so that your cat feels secure and close to you.

Conclusion

Cats will let you know if they’re unhappy, usually in destructive ways like clawing your furniture or spraying on your carpets. Creating the perfect home environment that can be enjoyed by you and your cat is important for your wellbeing and for protecting your home. Cats make great pets and are a loving addition to your family, so it’s important that you ensure your home environment is safe for them.
