Staging Your Home and Yard for a Quicker Sale

Home staging can help sell your house faster and for more money.

Unfortunately, most homeowners are unsure of where to start or don’t have the time or money to do a full-on makeover before putting their house on the market.

Luckily, there are some quick, easy and affordable home staging tips that’ll make your home attractive to buyers and help it sell fast, without breaking the bank.

Whether you’re working with an agent or selling on your own, these five quick home staging tips will help make your house ready to go on the market.

Keep reading this complete Utah housing market guide, and your house won’t be on the market long before it sells.

Contents

1.  Lighting Is the Key

If you’re staging a home for sale, make sure you highlight its features and mask any negative ones.

Lighting plays a crucial role in showing off your home’s best attributes, so it’s essential to get it right.

Using natural light is ideal, especially if you live near a window that can let some sun in. However, using lamps with adjustable shades will do just fine in a pinch.

For smaller bathrooms or bedrooms, don’t forget about overhead lighting.

Additionally, consider where your listing photos might be taken and consider bringing in some natural lighting.

Move lamps and light fixtures around to highlight features in different areas of your home.

Eliminate dark colors, as they create shadows and make rooms feel smaller than they are.

Choose paint colors that reflect light instead, or paint walls a lighter shade than ceilings or trim for a brighter appearance.

2.  Do Thorough Cleaning

As you go through each room in your house, clean every surface thoroughly.

Pay special attention to areas where there are water or food spills, as well as crumbs and dust on floorboards, furniture, and window sills.

You can even add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to a spray bottle filled with warm water and give everything a quick spritz for an added boost of freshness.

Combining cleaning tasks and natural fragrances will leave buyers feeling more comfortable about purchasing your home.

3.  Arrange Furniture

The idea is to create a feeling of openness and make it easy for buyers to imagine themselves in your home.

Don’t arrange the furniture into a series of small, isolated groupings; instead, allow space for extensive collections, such as seating areas with coffee tables.

Clean floors, carpets, wipe down surfaces and ensure all items are in good working order before photographing them.

An excellent tip for successful home staging is to go through your house and get rid of anything you don’t use.

The more straightforward, more open, and less cluttered your house looks, the better it will sell. Remove clutter, or anything that doesn’t add value to your home.

4.  Add Color to Your House

When staging a home, it’s essential to think about what buyers see when they walk in.

Typically, they’ll focus on these four areas: The front door, the kitchen, the living room, and bedrooms.

There are several ways to do this, from curtains and pillows to paint and artwork.

Paint is a quick and effective way to add pops of color to your home. Adding a bold accent wall will set off your space, primarily if you use a neutral base color.

When choosing an accent wall paint color, try experimenting with different hues to see what feels right for you.

Consider purchasing sample pots from your local hardware store to test out different combinations and find something that works well with other elements in your room.

5.  Tidy Up Your Yard

First impressions count, so it’s crucial to ensure your yard is improved, neat, and clean.

This not only gives potential buyers an excellent first impression but also enhances curb appeal, which has been proven to add an average of 9% to home values.

By keeping your lawn well-manicured and using fresh flowers in planters, you can improve your home’s value. Keep grass mowed and trimmed and ensure any flowers or shrubs are well-groomed.

Endnote

Are you trying to sell your house but can’t find any buyers? Your home may have some room for improvement when it comes to staging, which means that potential buyers may not be seeing what you want them to see.

Invest a little time and effort to stage your house for a quicker sale.
