I have used Chem Dry (this one) for almost 8 years. I read somewhere that you could ‘drink’ their cleaning product, and bc I had been scared off by the term “”chem”” I had never used them…. but I had a dog and it was a ‘situation’ where I really needed a pro. I lucked out calling these guys (Dave) and the same guy, Russ, has been coming out ever since. With kids and pets, it is a few times a year. They will do the whole house, but I can also call and say that the dog peed on the stairs and they still come right over and get it taken care of. Really a great operation, hope they stay in business forever.

The company showed up as scheduled and only took just over an hour to perform the cleaning. The crew was professional and curtious. The process they used did not involve any extraction, but instead used the application of cleaning solution in combination with use of a rotating brush to supposedly remove the loosened dirt. In talking to the crew, they said this process relied on very little water and so the carpet should be dry in no more than a couple hours. There were two problems that resulted from the use of their process. First, I don’t think the process itself gets the carpet that clean. In looking at the carpet where there is a coat closet in the hall, there was a noticeable difference in the color of the carpet in the hall where it was cleaned and in the closet where it wasn’t cleaned. The carpet in the closet was noticeably lighter. I think what this process does is spread some of the dirt around rather than removing it all, so while the carpet is uniform in appearance, it is not completely clean. Like a lot of homes in Portland, our carpet is a light brown in color, sort of tanish, so that fact that it was a slightly darker was not really noticeable. In addition, we were looking at replacing the carpet in the family room within a year with wood flooring, so we were not necessarily looking for the best cleaning, just something to get us by, and the price was very reasonable. However, I don’t think this process does as good a job as some sort of extraction process where the cleaning solution that contains the microscopic dirt particles is physically removed. The more serious problem is that it took more than 24 hours for some areas of the carpet to dry rather than an hour or two.Ive had Portland carpet cleaners come before and this did not happen. After a few days I noticed two areas of carpet, one in the family room, and one in the master bedroom, where the carpet was raised off the sub-floor, creating a sort of hump. A few months later, I had a carpet stretcher come to the house to take care of a carpet issue in a different area of the house. While there, I showed him the two carpet areas with the humps and he said this was due to the carpet having been being over-wet. He said it was not unusual for inexperienced Portland carpet cleaners to apply more liquid than necessary and that this is a common result when that happens. Since we were going to be replacing the carpet in the family room with wood, I didn’t do anything with that, but did have him fix the carpet in the master bedroom. Since he was already at the house for other work, the added cost for this fix was not that bad. A contributing factor to the carpet hump might have been that the initial carpet installation probably was not stretched enough. That said, if the proper amount of liquid had been applied, the problem would not have happened. So, I would say that for the money paid, the cleaning was probably OK but not great. The over-wet carpet problem is simply a matter of the operator not taking adequate care in the application of the cleaning solution and not the fault of the process itself.

Barney arrived on time and got right to work. I believe he pre-spotted some areas (I wasn’t actually watching him work) and moved some items that were too heavy for me to move or lift. He asked me if I wanted him to do the master bedroom closet (which is the size of a small room) and I said yes. At the time there was no discussion of an additional charge. As he finished each room, he carpet raked it and this made the carpet look especially pristine. When barney was near done, I asked him if he’d clean 3 small area rugs (e.g., 4′ x 6′) and – without hesitation – he said yes. I had pre-paid 4 rooms and he charged me an additional $25.00 for the closet but there was no additional charge for the area rugs. I felt the surcharge was reasonable and well deserved. I had been charged much more by other carpet cleaners in Portland prior to this. He also said that – if any of the spots seemed to return in the next couple of weeks – he’d come back and re-clean them. I would suggest that if you use Barney and there are some weighty things that have to be moved or changed in some way, you ask Barney to clean the carpet in those rooms first so that those areas are dry by the time he’s finished and he can then replace what was moved. I didn’t check any of the rooms when he was done because I could see that he was doing a wonderful job when he did the family room (which was the first room he did) and, as a result, I ended up moving things back. The last Portland carpet cleaning service that came out just cleaned around each and every item. Not even cleaning under the kitchen table. Barney is very nice and works steadily and quickly. I was really happy with the job he did, would certainly recommend him and I will use him again when my carpets need re-cleaning.

Apparently, our job is the dropped ball. We moved last week and I scheduled Mr Maid to come in to our totally empty house and clean the house for tenancy. They had one shot to do it as I turned over keys the next day and got on a plane the day after that – and Jeff knew that when we scheduled. I ordered my carpet, and had a relatively good experience with Marion’s sales staff. FYI.. the carpet installers are NOT Marion’s employees and you have to pay them separately. They didn’t come to the house when they were supposed to, and when I called them, they told me they were running late, and would be there shortly….4 hours later, they called me back and said they had to reschedule! This is unacceptable. I’m never going to Marion’s again, and I will NOT recommend them to anyone. Hope this helps someone out there.

A few months ago we took our wool area rug in for cleaning. We had developed a stain on it and decided the best course of action was professional cleaning. Atiyeh Bros. is a well known name so we decided to take our rug in to them. When we did, the rug was examined, and we were told that it was definitely of good quality and worth cleaning. That was good to hear. We were quoted a price, but told that the stain might not come completely out because it hadn’t been ‘dealt with’ sooner. We decided to take the chance, since we were also told that at the very least, the stain would lighten to the point of being fairly invisible. We left the rug and waited. When we got the call to pick it up, we were told to bring something to wrap it in, which surprised us, because we expected the rug to be wrapped in plastic or something to protect it after cleaning. It was simply tied up with string and laying on a rack in the warehouse. The rug was not shown to us (which in hindsight we should have insisted on), but directly loaded into our truck. When we got home and unrolled it, not only did we find that the stain hadn’t budged (not even lightened – it looked exactly the same as when we had taken it in), but the rug was covered in red fibers (our rug is natural so it was quite obvious). It was either dumped in with other rugs at some point, or rolled up while laying on another one??? We’ll never know. At any rate, no one bothered to remove the excess fibers before rolling it up. It took forever to remove the fibersl, and the more I had to do the angrier I got. The rug didn’t even look clean. Even if the stain didn’t come completely out we had expected the rug to look and smell cleaner. We had figured that if the rug cleaning went well that we’d have Atiyeh Brothers out to clean our furniture, but I can truthfully say that won’t be happening. We’ll never do business with them again.

I took my hand knotted rug to Atiyeh Brothers to repair some minor damage located on one edge of the rug. At first, the staff was helpful, and provided me with the benefits of having the rug repaired by hand. They told me about their thread color matching limitations, but also assured me that the color match would be close and hard to detect from standing height. After leaving I was confident that the rug was going to look good and that the edge would be stronger. When I returned three weeks later, an employee greeted me and offered to carry the rug out to my car. I thought it was a bit strange that they did not want to show me the repair work before I left. I told them that I wanted to see the repair first. Upon initial inspection the repair job was below my expectations. The thread color was a poor match and I could see the color difference immediately. Secondarily, they did not add any pile to the rug, which they told me would be completed. Upon more careful inspection, I discovered 4 locations along the edge that were not even repaired. The damaged gaps were large enough to fit a pencil through. The employee basically blew the missed repairs off, and made excuses on behalf of the rug repair crew. Two other Atiyeh employees have repeated the excuses for the shoddy repair. Atiyeh brothers had my rug for three full weeks and supposedly spent nearly 4 hrs on the repair. I can’t understand why the rug was not repaired properly. I’m finally picking-up my rug, repair round number 2, today — a full 5 weeks after my initial drop off date. I will never conduct business with Atiyeh Brothers again.

About a year ago, I had a major kitchen flooding issue in my rental house. My landlord’s insurance adjuster recommended Servpro to get everything taken care of… Things started out fine and then quickly turned awful. 1) They left a RAZORBLADE in the middle of the kitchen floor. I had two crawling-age babies and that was so far beyond unacceptable. I called the main office to tell them about it and no one really seemed to care. 2) Somewhere along the way, our change jar “”vanished””. Lovely. 3) A YEAR later, after everything was supposedly done, my landlord received a mystery bill from Servpro for a service they never even told her wouldn’t be covered by insurance. PLUS all sorts of interest and penalties! It would be one thing if this had occurred during the whole ordeal, or even a month later, but A YEAR?! I’m sorry, but I’m pretty sure you can’t start charging late fees and interest unless you’ve actually sent other bills in the first place. WTF?! I could go on, but suffice it to say I would never in a million years recommend this terrible company to anyone.
