Make a Great Impression With These Curb Appeal Boosts

Selling a home requires a lot of work and can get overwhelming if you don’t have a plan.

Even if you’ve recently renovated and have features in your home that will help it sell, there’s still work to be done in getting your home ready for the listing photos and subsequent viewings.

Curb appeal is difficult to measure in metrics, but you know it when you see it.

When browsing real estate listings online, a home with good curb appeal will make you stop. When you pull up to a home with curb appeal, you’ll be drawn in to see more.

These are definitely things you want potential buyers to feel when they look at your house, so sprucing up your home’s curb appeal is an essential part of selling it.

The good news is that there are many ways to improve your home’s curb appeal.

These strategies range in budget and time spent to achieve them, but for the most part, the solutions are affordable and quick.

You can take the time to implement them over a few weeks or spend a weekend getting your curb appeal in order. Read on for tips for improving your home’s curb appeal.

Windows and Doors

Windows and doors are the eyes and entry into your home, so it makes sense that they need special attention.

The front door of a house is the first impression, and depending on its condition, it can mean the difference between feeling like a warm welcome is being extended or a door is being slammed in your face.

If your door is in disrepair, warped or prone to air leaks that cannot be fixed, especially during a cold Ottawa winter, you might consider installing a new one. If, on the other hand, your door looks a little dated and faded, a paint job might be the fix.

It’s often suggested to opt for neutral colors on walls when getting the inside of a home ready, but when it comes to the front door, it’s better to be bold.

Choose a bright, bold color to make a splash, grab attention and liven up your home’s exterior. Bright reds, blues, and yellows are all great options for making your home pop.

While you can likely get away without painting your windows, if they are in significant disrepair, causing drafts or have structural issues, you may want to consider getting replacement windows in Ottawa.

Clean Counts

Whenever you have guests coming around to your home, the first instinct most people have is to clean.

The same goes when selling a home. Homeowners grab their cleaners and cloths and get scrubbing. Yet often, people overlook the benefits of cleaning their home’s exterior.

Over time, grime and dirt collect on a house, but because it happens so slowly, it tends to go unnoticed.

If you take the time to powerwash your home, you’ll be surprised by how different it looks. A good wash can make a house look brand new.

Up on the Roof

One of the first things potential buyers tend to ask about when looking at homes is the roof.

It makes a lot of sense as roof replacements are expensive, and buyers don’t want to be left with one right after buying a house.

That’s why it’s essential to ensure your roof’s condition looks as good as it is.

If you are a handy person, you might tackle this job yourself. Otherwise, it might be wiser to bring in a professional roofer for safety reasons.

Make sure any debris is removed and replace any missing, curling or fading shingles to get your roof looking its best.

This job is critical if any neighbors have recently redone their roofs, making yours look older by comparison.

Home Hardware

Many people are wary of the effectiveness updating the hardware outside your home can have and are surprised when they implement it to see the effect on their home.

Just as grime builds up on your home, it builds on the hardware. When was the last time you cleaned your house numbers, light fixtures, door handles, or mailbox? If you don’t know or the answer is an unequivocal ‘never,’ now is the time.

If these items have a cohesive look, cleaning them should be a good solution as long as they aren’t damaged.

But if they’re all mismatched items with different looks, consider buying ones that match or complement one another.

It’s a small thing, but it goes a long way in pulling the appearance of your home together and making it look orderly.

Whether selling your home in the near future or just considering it, it’s never too early to focus on your home’s curb appeal.

Follow these tips and make any visitor feel welcome and excited to see all your home offers.
