Wouldn’t it be nice to look out the window or take a few steps to your backyard and see a mini oasis peacefully waiting for you to seek refuge?

Many people haven’t enjoyed the outdoors for a while now due to different factors.

Thankfully, you can still get a breath of fresh air and enjoy the calming effect of a green sanctuary at home. How? By transforming your outdoor area into a mini oasis.

Now more than ever, a home’s outdoor space can be quite a lifesaver when you think about the many things you’ve been missing out on for more than a year.

With a bit of elbow grease and a touch of creativity, you can have a safe haven where you can enjoy afternoon tea, read your favorite book, and entertain guests during special occasions.

1. Open Up a Space for Lounging and More

Even when you have a spacious living room or attic, nothing beats the serenity and freshness that only an outdoor sport can bring.

Needless to say, a mini oasis in your backyard is the perfect space for lounging and more.

No matter the size of your open-air scene, there are more than enough transformation ideas you can try to turn the area into a whole new outdoor experience.

To start, one simple yet tested trick is to expand your indoor space by creating a seamless transition that leads to an outdoor oasis.

You can make this happen by installing frameless siding glass walls and folding doors from Cover Glass and other companies.

The concept is to have an inviting design by removing physical and visible barriers.

The result is an elegant lounging spot that’s easily connected to your indoor kitchen or other parts of the house closest to the backyard.

Once the space is fully or partially open, you can set up a place for relaxation.

You can build a hammock or place outdoor furniture for sunbathing or other outdoor activities you find interesting.

Enhance the level of comfort by adding plenty of cushions or pillows in different patterns and colors.

2. Add a Lush and Fragrant Garden

It won’t be called an oasis if there are no plants to complete the greeneries.

Aside from lush trees that you probably already have in your yard or garden, you can add shrubs and flowering plants next to make the space more colorful, fragrant, and inviting.

To make the greenery look exciting and out-of-the-box, consider using pots and containers in varying patterns and colors.

The plants can then serve as living décor if you place them near the seating or lounging area.

There are different ideas and varieties you can try for the plants. Anything goes as long as you know you can take care of all the plants as necessary.

You can try succulents in shallow planters or an herb planter where you can grow herbs and spices of your preference.

Not only will you have free ingredients for cooking, but you’ll also make the outdoor space smell aromatic and homey all the time.

3. Create a Kid-friendly Spot

If you have kids, you might want to include them in your plans as you transform your outdoor area into a mini oasis.

You can think of adding a kid-friendly spot where the youngsters can be active and safe while playing.

If you still have space, why not consider turning one corner into a play area that can keep them busy as you adults mingle and toast on bottles of beer or glasses of wine?

If the spot is near a block of concrete or sidewalk, you may create a sandbox that can excite the kids and keep them engaged for hours.

Throw in some toy construction equipment, sand tools, and boards to make it even more interactive. Or you can also set up a kid-friendly obstacle course for them.

It’ll only take ropes, logs, unused tires, and tree branches, and you’ll have an ultimate obstacle course that’ll spark a little healthy competition among kids and kids at heart.

4. Get Shady

If you don’t have a roofed structure like a patio or deck, consider adding some shade to your mini oasis.

You don’t want the sun ruining the moment for you and your guests, especially when you’ve planned the perfect weekend BBQ for everyone.

Suppose there’s no more space to build a sturdy structure.

For this following step, you can turn to patio umbrellas or retractable awnings to provide you with some much-needed shelter from the bright sun.

Again, you can choose to throw in a few outdoor furniture pieces for the shade to be more comfortable and livable.

Go for waterproof and durable items that you and your family can enjoy for a long time such as wrought-iron chairs and tables.

You may also check out weatherproof table lamps and floor lamps that’ll definitely look perfect for the shaded structure in your mini oasis.

5. Set Up a Spot for Cooking and Grilling

What’s outdoor fun without good food, right? Don’t forget to consider adding a cooking and grilling area for your little sanctuary.

If you have the budget, you might want to add an outdoor kitchen with functional appliances and equipment.

Think of adding a sink, a beautiful countertop, and a place for grilling and baking.

Another optional feature you can add is an outdoor firepit. This element can give an upgraded feel to your mini oasis.

Imagine how beautiful your weekend or holiday would be if you think of a cozy night with friends or family, besides the fire, sharing stories, and making new memories.

6. Don’t Forget the Light

One important aspect of a charming outdoor space is the presence of warm lighting. Don’t forget to hang and install lighting fixtures that’ll instantly transform the place into a sparkling oasis.

As a finishing touch, you can consider string lights, pendant lights, and lamp posts around the area to illuminate pathways and walkways.

You can also add water features to make the oasis a complete package. If you already have a pool, you might want to elevate the experience by adding water fountains and waterfalls.

A swim-up bar is a great idea, too, if you want to enjoy refreshments while lounging in the water.

Your Own Version of a Mini Paradise

Everybody dreams of an outdoor space that literally makes them feel like paradise is just around the corner.

Go ahead and try out the mentioned steps above to make your backyard feel and look cozier than ever.

Regardless of your exterior’s style and design, you can definitely enjoy transforming your outdoor area into a mini oasis while increasing your property’s value for future resale.
