If you take a look at your wall and immediately get anxious about how to make that huge wall beautiful, you’re in the right place! Decorating a large wall can be overwhelming. You have to come up with just the right balance of things to add to the wall and you certainly don’t want it to look awful when you’re finished.
We’ve got some great ideas for decorating a large wall and we are here to share each of them with you in turn!
We’re so excited to share these options with you. We hope you find something that will get your interior design inspiration flowing!
Large Art Work
One of the first or maybe best things that you can do is to find a large piece of art work. Whether you go with something modern or a stated piece, art work always brings together a room.
The larger the better when you’re working with a large wall. You might even find large art work hangings that are more than one piece and this could be a great addition to that wall as well. Nothing screams dignified and well-decorated like some unique artwork.
You don’t have to spend millions of dollars on professional art work and you don’t have to even use a known artist (unless of course, you want to). The goal is simply to find something that fits into the space in both size and design overall.
Find something that will bring the attention to the piece and fill up space on the large wall for you.
Keep it Personal
Forget going out and buying pieces that just don’t really appeal to you and try creating something of your own. There are tons of scroll saw projects out there that you can easily make come to life if you have the right tools to do so.
If you’re creative and you like to make things, it’s time to put that to work. Whether you make a decorative frame for a picture or mirror or you make some monogrammed wall art, you can whip something up that is exactly what you’re looking for!
All it takes is some wood and some creativity to create your own piece. If you’re not comfortable creating something, maybe you know someone who does scroll saw work and you can team up with them to design and create a gorgeous addition to your large living room wall.
Try Something Eclectic
Have you ever looked at a wall with several random pieces that at first glance don’t really piece together but as you study them, they perfect the space? That’s the idea behind this idea. Make a gallery wall using eclectic pieces. Tie together colors or a theme of some sort and just piece together a wall with multiple pieces.
This can be a really fun way to decorate a large living room wall. Here’s what you do. First, go pick out a random smattering of eclectic artwork and drawings and pictures. Make sure you pick some varying sizes and maybe even varying shapes as well.
This part is important – when you’re picking out your pieces, DON’T try to mentally place them on the wall to make your decisions. Just choose a handful of pieces and worry about that later!
Once you’ve picked your pieces, you can start hanging them and playing with the layout. Try placing them and rearranging them on an open space on the floor first. This is a great way to see how they piece together best before you attach them to the wall.
Hopefully, following this recommendation will keep you from doing a lot of rearranging once those pieces are hanging from your wall!
Mirrors are one of the easiest ways to dress up a space. They come in different shapes and sizes and no matter what they are, they provide just some bit of pizzazz and elegance to the room all at the same time.
You can use a mirror arrangement and place several mirrors. You can also just go with a statement mirror. Maybe something large and bold or something unique that fills a decent amount of space.
You really can’t go wrong with mirrors, no matter how you work the mon the wall. We love statement mirrors that maybe have unique shapes or designs and are large to cover a broad space when you hang them up.
You can choose fun colors, shapes, sizes, or whatever you like! That’s perhaps another bonus of using mirrors is the ability to customize them to your own taste and style and it always looks great!
Another reliable option is to incorporate shelves onto the wall. We’ve seen designs where shelves nearly fill the entire wall and we’ve seen other designs where shelves are decorative and centered.
You can create shelves or customize using shelves you purchase at the store. What is even better is then you can decorate the shelves or use them for storage. Need a book case? Use shelves on the large wall!
Be creative here and consider what will be most useful to you for the space but also what will look nice in the space. There are a ton of different options from floor-to-ceiling shelves to simple pattern shelves with knickknacks or plants on them.
Another large covering that could work well on a large living room wall is a hanging tapestry. Tapestries are another form of artwork but they are usually cloth of some sort instead of a painting.
These are unique and quite often handmade in some way. They are heavy and they are a much better choice than say, wallpaper might be. Tapestries are typically not overly expensive for the heavy and large pieces that you acquire.
This is another perfect way to spruce up that large living room wall!
Decorating a large living room wall can be as simple as painting it an accent color to finding ways to fill the space with accents and décor. We recommend using large items to fill the large space and using your own style to make it home.
Which of these are you planning to try?
