One of the major reasons why you have not been sleeping well is probably because you are not sleeping on a good mattress.

Any mattress you are sleeping on should be able to provide you with enough comfort and support. Indeed buying a new and comfortable mattress can be quite expensive but it is a worthy investment you need to make if you want to start sleeping well.

If you need help buying a mattress that would give you the best night’s sleep, then this article will provide you with all the guidance you need. Let’s get started!

Types of Mattresses

Before you decide to buy a mattress, you should know that there are different types of mattresses. And if you know the different types of mattresses, you would be able to choose which is best for you.

The five types of mattresses are airbed, latex, hybrid, innerspring, or foam. Let’s discuss each of them briefly:

Airbed: Airbeds are made with an air chamber as their support system. Usually, a pump is built into the mattress to add or remove air with the push of a button that can be controlled with either a remote or a smartphone. Airbeds give sleepers all the firmness and flexibility they need as they sleep. Many couples love airbeds because it allows them to determine the firmness level of each side.

Latex: This mattress provides sleepers with high-quality bounce and durability, and proper contouring. This is the best type of mattress for sleepers that are eco-conscious. Check out Nolah Mattress for a line of natural Talalay latex mattresses for superior sleep.

Hybrid: Hybrids have two central elements: a substantial foam comfort system and an innerspring support core. Hybrid mattresses have a mixture of bounce and contouring with low heat retention and they can be a perfect fit for sleepers in any position based on how they are built.

Innerspring: An innerspring mattress has a coil-based support system and other layers. Their sleeping surface is bouncier and has limited motion isolation. A lot of shoppers prefer this mattress because it is cheaper.

Foam: These mattresses are made with only foam and no coils. They provide above-average contouring to the body, pressure relief, and motion isolation–making them a perfect fit for couples and side sleepers.

2. Firmness

Firmness has to do with the hardness or softness of a mattress. When buying a mattress, ensure you also consider its firmness and go for the level of firmness that you are more comfortable with.

For example, if you are a side sleeper that is less than 130 pounds, an extra soft mattress would be good for you. If you don’t know the firmness level that is best for you, you could visit a local mattress store to try out some of their mattresses. Ensure you remain on the mattress for at least ten to fifteen minutes so you can really evaluate which is more comfortable for you.

3. Sleeping Positions

Another factor that should guide you when buying a mattress for the best night’s sleep is your sleeping position. Ask yourself the position you take when you lay down to sleep and the position you find yourself in when you wake up. It will help you determine your sleeping position if you don’t know yours yet.

Buying a mattress that is suitable for your sleeping position will help you sleep better and prevent you from waking up with pains in your body.

If you are a back sleeper, you will need a medium-firm to firm mattress that has between light and moderate contouring.

If you are a side sleeper, you will need a medium-soft to a medium-firm mattress. If you are a stomach sleeper, you will need a firm mattress. And if you are a combination sleeper, a medium-firm mattress will be the best option for you.

4. Body Types

Your body type will go a long way in influencing your choice of a mattress. If you weigh below 130 pounds, a soft mattress would be good for you because you don’t get to sink into the mattress that much. But if you weigh between 130 and 230 pounds, you will need a firm mattress like latex.

And then, if you weigh above 230 pounds, a hybrid or a latex mattress would be a good option. If you have broad shoulders or hips, you will need to buy a softer mattress that has more contouring in it especially if you are a side sleeper.

If you are more than six feet tall, it would be great if you took your mattress dimensions seriously–buy a mattress that you can stretch out comfortably on. Stretching out comfortably on a mattress is completely dependent on the size. For tall people who need enough legroom, it would be best if you go for a king or queen size mattress.

5. Pricing

One of the best investments you can make in your home is buying a good mattress. Pricing is another factor you should consider when buying a mattress. It will be good if you budget a particular amount of money you would love to save for buying a mattress and pillows.

That way, you won’t have to panic when you order one online or visit a mattress store. A good mattress costs between $300 and $2,000. But if you want to buy a mattress and a bed, it will obviously cost you more.

The price of a mattress varies based on factors such as the materials used in producing it, the brand, where it is sold (online or in a physical store), its size, where it is made, and the way it was constructed.

Buying a high-quality mattress is worth it. You will enjoy the benefits health-wise over time. And most high-quality mattresses can serve you for over eight years or more if you maintain them properly.

With this guide on how to buy a mattress for the best night’s sleep, you can make the best choice when buying a mattress.
