Elements That Cause and Contribute to A Mold Outbreak
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Mold requires the presence of various elements to thrive in an area. Where there is an omission of any of these elements, the mold cultures will not flourish as they are nothing causing them to take hold.

Therefore, you must remove or reduce these elements if you want to prevent mold. Also, it is an attack of getting rid of a mold colony, and you can hire a mold inspection Texas Company to help with this more professionally.

As you read on, are six elements that cause and contribute to a mold outbreak.

Contents

  • 1 1. Moisture
  • 2 2. Lack of Sunlight
  • 3 3. Mold Spores
  • 4 4. Food Source
  • 5 5. Oxygen Supply

1. Moisture

Moisture is the main element for mold to thrive. Although there is no humidity threshold or moisture content where mold will not survive.

Thus, it depends on a blend of other elements present as well. A mold nursery will form easily where it is slightly damp and highly humid.

So what could be causing dampness or moisture present in your home? A plumbing leak under your kitchen sink, bathroom leaks, drips from piping at the attic.

Dampness can also happen inside walls due to drain waste or from condensation where plumbing lines are chilled.

Thus, it does not have to be standing water that is the source of moisture as there are many other places where you can also not dry completely.

For instance, grout lines, door tracks, shower curtains, among others. So, if you can get rid of the source of moisture, you can fight mold growth.

2. Lack of Sunlight

Where you get direct sunlight exposure, you can easily fight mold as it destroys its cellular structure. This is why mold is present in dark places in your home or office.

Although mold requires dim lighting to total darkness, it will still grow inside homes where fluorescent lights are burning. Although you cannot have your entire house get sunlight.

There is indoor lighting that you can buy, which will help to emulate the sun’s wavelength, and through its exposure, it will destroy mold.

So, since you cannot have sunlight even in the attic that curbs the growth of mold, you can contact mold inspection specialists to check for the signs of mold.

3. Mold Spores

The mold spores themselves are elements that contribute to the growth and outbreak of mold. Unfortunately, they are hard to prevent since they are universally present throughout.

Since they are invisible to the naked eye, they enter your home, office, and car from the outdoors. Due to the air movement of these spores, they spread very fast.

Hence it makes it impossible to remove mold spores practically from your home. So all you have to do is to ensure that you keep the conditions causing mold under control.

4. Food Source

Mold food sources outdoors are a lot as there is a lot of organic materials and vegetation abound. But what is the food source of mold inside your house?

For instance, if you find mold in your bathroom vanity, it is because its food source is in the organic materials in wallboard or wood panels.

Plus, it’s feeding on dirt and dust that are always present no matter how best you clean them.

Also, mold takes hold in various things around your home, and it will eat the surface of clothes, luggage, insulation in your walls or attic inside porous flooring carpets and damp fabrics, cardboard, and newspaper.

The trick here is to ensure that the food source does not get the other elements to create a mold outbreak.

5. Oxygen Supply

Do you wonder why there is no mold under the ocean? It is because there is no oxygen supply.

Mold cannot live without oxygen. Because of the lack of oxygen, mold will not perform the organic process where it forms mass through dividing cells.

Not only does this air contribute to mold growth, but it is the principal carrier for mold spores. This is within an inch in a tight corner, across the floor, or the entire house.

Besides, not large amounts of air are needed for mold to thrive. For instance, mold colonies still survive in closed containers, sealed boxes, inside wall cavities, and under insulation.

To allow proper ventilation as it helps surfaces dry by moisture evaporation, and you can curb the mold issue.
