1) Colorful Ground Covers

Flowering ground covers are a great way to add color to your yard without having to plant a bunch of individual flowers. Plus, they help keep weeds at bay and can even help prevent soil erosion.

One example is the Blazing Star (Liatris spicata), which blooms with spikes of purple, pink or white flowers in late summer. Another good choice is the California Poppy (Eschscholzia California), which grows well in sun or shade and has an annual blooming cycle that starts in early spring with deep orange blooms that gradually become lighter shades by fall.

2) Fragrant Creative Flower Garden

There’s nothing like the smell of fresh flowers in the springtime. If you’re looking to add some fragrance to your garden, here are a few of our favorite fragrant flowers

Alyssum – Known for its delicate white blossoms that look great planted alongside purple or pink blooms and herbs such as basil and thyme. Alyssum is also known for being an annual that blooms all summer long!

Daffodils – Known for their golden petals and yellow centers, daffodils create an amazing display when planted together with other plants such as tulips and crocus!

Irises – The name iris comes from the Greek word meaning rainbow because of the wide variety of colors this flower can come in. In nature, they’re often found along waterways where they grow well due to their tolerance for wet conditions. Their graceful stems make them perfect additions to bouquets and wreaths!

Tulips – These traditional favorites come in many different shapes and sizes so it’s easy to find one that matches your taste.

3) A Water Garden

Start by finding a flat, sunny spot in your yard for your water garden. Then, build a small raised bed or dig a shallow hole that will hold a liner. Next, line the hole with a heavy-duty pond liner. Fill the liner with water and add a preformed pond basin or small fountain.

Plant your flowers around the edge of the pond, using aquatic plants if you’d like. Finally, add some fish or other water creatures to your new garden and enjoy! It is also a good idea to make sure there is enough light for any aquatic plants that you want to grow.

4) Edible Flowers

If you’re looking for a unique way to spruce up your yard, why not try planting some edible flowers? Roses and lavender are popular choices. In addition to the sweet smell they provide, roses have medicinal properties that can help with various skin conditions.

Lavender has an anti-inflammatory quality that can relieve the pain of arthritis and other joint disorders. Other popular edible flowers include violets, pansies, nasturtiums, and violas. Unlike traditional flowers, these plants grow well in pots so it’s easy to move them around on a whim.

5) Themed Beds

One of the most popular ways to arrange flowers in your garden is by creating themed beds. This involves grouping together plants with similar colors, textures, or growing habits. For example, you could have a bed of all annuals or one filled with different varieties of roses.

You can also include herbs, vegetables, and even culinary fruits in your theme beds. A good rule of thumb is to avoid more than three types of flowering plants per bed. And if you’re using an herb like basil as a decorative element rather than for cooking, make sure it will grow well without much attention from you!

6) Pallet Garden | Creative Flower Garden

Flower gardens are a great way to add color and life to your yard. But if you’re short on space, you might not be able to have the garden of your dreams. That’s where pallet gardens come in! A pallet garden is a great way to create a beautiful garden without taking up a lot of space.

Plus, it’s a relatively inexpensive way to get started in gardening. You can purchase pallets at local stores for less than $10 or even make your own from scratch. Either way, these projects are easy enough for anyone with little time and creativity to complete.

7) Bird Feeder Planter

Start by nailing a few pieces of scrap wood together to create a simple box shape. Then, use a jigsaw to cut a hole in the center of one side of the box—this will be where your birds can enter and exit the feeder. Next, add some drainage holes to the bottom of the box so that water doesn’t build up inside.

Once your box is assembled, it’s time to paint or stain it (optional). Now fill the bottom of the box with birdseed, and place it in your yard near some trees or shrubs. Finally, sit back and enjoy watching your feathered friends! Remember to clean out the feeder every week and refill it with fresh seeds.

8) Living Wall Planter

This unique take on a flower garden is perfect for small spaces or for adding a pop of color to an otherwise boring wall. To create your own living wall planter, start by choosing a sunny spot in your yard and tracing out the shape of your planter on the ground.

Then, use a shovel or spade to dig a trench around the perimeter of your traced-out shape. Next, line the trench with landscaping fabric or weed barrier cloth to prevent weeds from growing in your planter.

After that, fill the bottom of the trench with gravel for drainage and then begin adding soil and plants. When you’re finished planting, water well and enjoy your new living work of art!

9) Vertical Garden Planter

Find a sunny spot in your yard for your vertical garden planter. If you don’t have a lot of suns, you can still grow flowers, but you’ll need to choose plants that don’t require as much sun. Once you’ve found the perfect spot, mark out the area with some string or landscaping paint.

This will help you visualize the size and shape of your garden. Next, it’s time to start planting! You can either plant directly into the ground or use a raised bed or container garden. If you’re using a raised bed, be sure to line it with weed fabric to prevent weeds from taking over.

If you’re going with a container garden, use containers that are at least 12 inches deep so they’ll hold enough soil. When planting, place taller plants towards the back of the pot so they won’t shade shorter ones.

10) Hanging Baskets

Get a large, round wire basket. Paint the baskets in any color you want or leave them as is. Fill the bottom of the basket with rocks or gravel for drainage. Add potting soil until it’s about halfway full. Plant your flowers, making sure to choose plants that will do well in a hanging basket (look for trailing or cascading varieties).

Water regularly and fertilize monthly. Hang your basket from a sturdy hook or bracket. Place it near a window where it can get plenty of light, or on an outdoor porch so passersby can enjoy them. Put them high enough that they won’t be blown over by strong winds.

11) Rain Boot Garden – Creative Flower Garden

Give your rain boots a second life by planting a small garden in them! This is a great way to add some color to your yard without taking up too much space. Choose a sunny spot in your yard for your rain boot garden. Then, using a drill, make drainage holes in the bottom of each boot.

Fill your boots with good quality potting soil, leaving about an inch of space at the top. Water well and let drain. Plant your flowers or other plants of choice in each boot, making sure to pack them in tightly so there’s no room for gaps.

12) House Numbers on Pots: Creative Flower Garden

One of the easiest ways to add a personal touch to your home is by displaying your house numbers on pots. You can buy pre-made pots or planters, or you can DIY your own.

Either way, this is a quick and easy way to give your home some curb appeal. Place them in a row along the sidewalk leading up to your front door. You can also place them near your front porch steps, or at the entrance to your driveway.

Conclusion

Creating a flower garden can be a fun and rewarding experience. By following these tips, you can create a beautiful garden that will thrive for years to come.

Never be afraid to experiment with different plant combinations. Consider adding some unusual or native plants to your garden.
